At the end of the 1st Bundesliga, Radstadt celebrated a 5:4 home win once morest Anif. The much younger STC team only managed to win one match in the second division final once morest Dornbirn.

Actually, the last round of the Bundesliga season wasn’t regarding much for the Salzburg tennis teams. In the top division, Anif and Radstadt had already fixed the league before the final derby in Pongau. Regardless of the outcome of the final in Dornbirn, the STC was already certain to climb one floor down. Radstadt won the fight for honor and the unofficial title of best team in the state in front of their own audience and in the very last deciding set with 5:4. The team from the Volksgarten lost 8-1 once morest Dornbirn with a much smaller line-up.

Neumayer kept his nerve

On the other hand, the excitement of the match in Radstadt was hard to beat. After the doubles, the hosts were just 2-1 ahead, but Anif didn’t let himself be shaken off and also won the legionnaires’ one-s duel. When the score was 4:4, only Radstadt’s top talent Lukas Neumayer and Jakob Aichhorn were left. After falling behind in the set, the Anifer saved himself in the match tie-break, in which he was even in the lead at the beginning. But Neumayer showed strong nerves, pulled away to 9:3 and finally secured the victory for the hosts with 10:6.

“Narrower than expected”

“That was another nice end to the season. It was tighter than we thought it would be, but the match was exciting right to the end,” says Radstadt’s captain Gerald Kamitz. His anifer counterpart Bernd Kössler was also satisfied with the end of the season. “Today we gave two young players, Florian Platz and Daniel Stadler, who don’t usually play, the chance to show themselves. Even though they didn’t win a set, they still showed their talent in doubles and singles can,” says the veteran. Like Radstadt, his team would rather have fought for honor in Final-4 than at the end. “But the ultimate goal was to stay up in the league and we did it confidently.”

STC fielded three SSM players

Without a chance, the STC was away at TC Dornbirn in the second division final. “They actually played once morest us in a top-flight formation. It’s nice to be able to call yourself champions, but we’d rather save some money for the coming season and give our boys a chance to try themselves at this level,” explains team leader Valentin Snobe.
In Vorarlberg, three SSM students were deployed in the Salzburg team.

“A nice bonus”

Dario Navarro and Manuel Lassacher even managed to win a set in doubles before losing 4:10 in the match tie-break. In the singles, however, like Gustav Dressler, they did not go beyond winning a few honors games. Legionnaire Denny Vojtischek prevented a zero defeat with a hard-fought three-set victory. “Since we had fixed promotion beforehand, it was just a nice bonus for us. It was good for the boys that they saw what they were missing and what they had to work on. We’re looking forward to it next year,” emphasizes Snobe.
