Judo Lee Won-hee returns following 15 years… A worthy win for a 19-year-old

Professor Lee Won-hee (41) of Yongin University, a “one-on-one winner”, won a valuable victory once morest a player 19 years younger than herself during her return to active duty.
Lee won-hee won the International Judo Federation (IJF) 2023 Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam men’s 73kg round 1 held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on the 24th by disqualification from Alabachow Ruslan (22) from Belarus, who competed as an individual neutral player (INDIVIDUAL NEUTRAL ATHLETES).
Ruslan was disqualified for using a banned technique at 1 minute 44 seconds following the match started, and Lee Won-hee advanced to the second round as it was.
Round 2 was disappointing. Lee Won-hee had a fierce match with Becruz Hodajoda (Tajikistan), but lost with 35 seconds left in the regular time by giving half with a leg technique.
Lee Won-hee is a legend in the world of judo who became the first Korean judo player to achieve a Grand Slam by winning gold medals at the 2003 World Championships, the 2004 Athens Olympics, and the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
He achieved 48 consecutive victories in international competitions in 2003, and at that time, won one round in 44 matches, earning the nickname ‘One-One Victory Man’.
In May 2008, Lee Won-hee announced her retirement following losing to Wang Ki-chun in the selection match for the Beijing Olympics.
After deciding to return to active duty in the summer of 2021, Lee Won-hee returned through training and through this competition.
It is the first time in 15 years since 2008 that Lee Won-hee has won an international competition.
On this day, the IJF introduced through social media that ‘Lee Won-hee, a master of judo, has returned’.
