A boat with several migrants on board has rescued four shipwrecked people off the Tunisian coast of Sfax. The four men fell into the water following the boat they were on from Tunisia sank. They spent several hours in the water before being sighted and rescued by a migrant boat.

The survivors, who have since been brought to Lampedusa, reported that several people were still missing. Their statements are being examined by the Italian authorities, Italian media reported.

The survivors were picked up by a migrant boat, which traveled 36 hours before being escorted to Lampedusa by the Italian Coast Guard. 268 migrants on board seven boats have arrived in Lampedusa since Friday. Around 340 people on board eight boats reached the Mediterranean island between Sicily and Tunisia on Thursday.

More than 450 people are currently being held at the Red Cross-run refugee center, which housed up to 1,200 people this week. The hotspot can accommodate a maximum of 400 people.
