More than 180 groups have registered for the CSD parade – more than ever before. The number of participants is likely to increase once more. It was 27,000 last year. The start is at 12:00 p.m. at Mariahilfplatz. From there it is 3.5 kilometers through the city center to Maximilianstraße. This will result in noticeable disruptions in road traffic. Trams and buses also have to take detours.
Bavaria still without an action plan for equality
Last but not least, the organizers of the parade want to underline their demand for an action plan once morest violence and for equality for queer people this year. So far, Bavaria is the only federal state in which there is no such plan. The LGBTIQ* community in Munich and 19 other cities is calling for this to change. Because discrimination and violence once morest lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans*, inter* and queer people are still part of everyday life.
Support from the second mayor of the Greens
In their demand for an action plan, the community is also supported by Munich’s second mayor, Katrin Habenschaden (Greens). In a recent press conference, she said she was tired of “the fact that we in Bavaria are always supposed to be at the bottom of the reactionary table on such issues. In any case, we in Munich aren’t.” Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) recently addressed the topic at least in a podcast.
Main stage at Marienplatz
The accompanying street festival takes place until Sunday. In 2022, 400,000 visitors attended the two days of celebration. In order to gain more space, the party area has moved from Rindermarkt to Odeonsplatz. The main stage is on Marienplatz. Tom Neuwirth, for example, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 as Conchita Wurst, will perform there on Sunday.
The CSU is present at the information stands
There are information stands all over the city centre. The CSU will also be represented there. The participation with a float in the parade, on the other hand, was rejected because the party’s basic program does not match the goals for which the parade stands, according to the organizers. In any case, the rejection has nothing to do with the discussion regarding the drag reading, which was heavily criticized by the CSU.
250 police officers on duty
More than 250 police officers are on duty over the two days during the events. A terrorist attack on the rainbow parade in Vienna was foiled last weekend.
CSD Würzburg: Fear of legal alliance in Italy
Christopher Street Day will also be celebrated in Würzburg this weekend. In 2023 the motto of the CSD is “One world equal love”. The organizers are also looking outside the box, for example to Italy. “Many LGBTIQ * activists there fear that following the election result of the legal alliance around Giorgia Meloni, their freedoms will be restricted once more,” says the flyer for the Würzburg CSD.
The CSD parade starts on Saturday at 12.00 p.m. from the main train station through the city centre. From 2 p.m. there will be a street festival with a stage program. In the evening, the CSD day ends with an following-show party in Club Labyrinth, and on Sunday with a queer service on the lawn behind the Zeller Tor.
