According to the information, “the cost of building the market was presented as a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is estimated at regarding $8 million.”
However, with the outbreak of the October 17 revolution and the collapse of the exchange rate of the Lebanese pound, and then the crisis of the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, attempts to open the market stalled until the year 2023, when the Imkan Association, headed by Ahmed Hashemite, provided everything necessary to open the market.
The association worked to secure all necessary ministerial signatures for the market, and worked to develop a comprehensive plan to manage the market and ensure its guarding, maintenance and lighting for a period of 6 months. So that the project started by Saad Hariri was completed by Ahmed Hashemite, and the beneficiary of this project was the city of Tripoli and its people.
In an interview with “Lebanese Debate”, the President of the Beirut Association for Development and Imkan, Ahmed Hashemite, expressed “the most sincere expressions of thanks and gratitude to the Kingdom of Goodness and Giving without any grace, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the auspices of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, may God prolong his life, and the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for the basic support in building Productive projects. Hashemite added, “Also, those who deserve thanks are those who said that the heart is on the north, and I mean Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who remained in contact and followed up until all the details related to the project were completed. Prime Minister Hariri made a great effort to establish this project since he was prime minister on the day He sought to acquire the land for the benefit of the vegetable market project, and when he decided to suspend political action, he did not delay in providing anything that would help our people in Lebanon.
Hashemite also thanked Prime Minister Najib Mikati for making every possible effort to open the market, Interior Minister Judge Bassam Mawlawi, who provided all the necessary support and facilities, the mayor of Tripoli, Eng. Al-Biqai and the Information Division represented by Brigadier General Muhammad Arab.
And he added, “In my name and in the name of the “Imkan” association and its employees, we pledge to you, as you know us, to continue building development projects, as they are a duty before God and towards you.
Hashemite concluded, “Work has been long overdue in completing the market project, and the time has come for us and the Vegetable Traders and Teachers Syndicate to begin the great work for the advancement of Tripoli, which has no opponent but poverty and deprivation.”
