Coaches and teammates appreciate what the veteran catcher has brought to the organization, beyond his great physical-athletic quality
FRISCO, Texas — Brandin Cooks it’s fast. Like, fast, very fast.
In the combined scouts of the NFL from 2014, he clocked 4.33 seconds in the 40, the fastest receiver to run that day at Indianapolis. “Hey, I’m not going to talk regarding it,” Brandin Cooks replied. “Maybe it’s Turp. You never know. Maybe it might be CJ. We won’t know because I’m not in any race.”

I think that’s the most important thing,” Dak Prescott stressed. “When you have speed like that, and he can do it on every play, every drive, at the start of every drive, cornerbacks, defense, they don’t know what they’re up once morest. Cooks’ impact goes beyond his speed. Lamb and Gallup said they’ve learned little tricks of the trade that Cooks has mastered while totaling six 1,000-yard seasons with four different franchises.
“I’m a visual learner and I watch him go through his routes, the way he prepares, the way he practices, how he goes regarding his business. I like each and every one of those parts,” Lamb said. “I mean, he’s a professional to death. My coach told me that bringing him would be the best for me and it is.
Gallup said: “He tells everyone, ‘When you’re done with this, you’re done with that, make sure you stretch. Make sure you do what you’re supposed to do so you can stay in the league as long as possible.’ That’s one of the most important things right now. American football, that’s going to be there. We came to the league for a reason. But he’s here talking regarding how you stay in the league.”
The offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer attributed in part to the second-year wide receiver’s strong offseason Jalen Tolbert upon the arrival of Cooks.
“What Jalen is going to tell you is that he spent a lot of time with Brandin,” Schottenheimer said. “So here’s a guy who’s been there, he’s done that, and what Brandin wants to do is encourage and invest in the younger guys, to spend a lot of time together. I see them before practice in the weight room working together. What Brandin brings us is much more than speed. Absolutely, it’s a lot of fun to watch him race, whether it’s deep routes, short routes. Really do not care. But what I love is the competitor and the way he cheers on the entire receiving room. It’s been amazing.”
Last season, the Cowboys had two receptions of at least 50 yards, and Noah Brown y T.Y. Hilton, the receivers, is no longer on the roster. The Cowboys they had 50 passing plays of 20 yards or more in 2022, down from 63 in 2021. Prescott averaged 7.3 yards per attempt, the second-lowest rate of his career (6.8 yards in 2017).
