Now, the novelty is a new production that will delve into the life of an emblematic figure of Mexican music: Juan Gabriel.

As revealed this Thursday, June 22, this documentary will feature unpublished material thanks to an agreement between the streaming platform and the family of the late Mexican artist.

The streaming giant confirmed that it is working on a new documentary regarding the interpreter of “Hasta que te conocí” in an unconventional production, including interviews, recordings and videos that have been seen so far.

The direction will be in charge of María José Cuevas, recognized for her work in “Bellas de noche”, an investigation that explored the lives of famous actresses from the 80s who participated in the so-called “file cinema”.

Juan Gabriel arrives at the most famous streaming.

When will the Netflix documentary by Juan Gabriel premiere?

One of the most outstanding data will be the participation of Juan Gabriel’s children.

Through a announcementNetflix said that it is collaborating “closely” with the heirs of Divo de Juárez.

Iván Aguilera, son of the singer, confirmed the generation of new content for the streaming service.

“We are very excited regarding this collaboration with Netflix to launch the documentary regarding my father’s personal life and musical career,” he said.

According to Aguilera, the family had been “for a long time” looking to bring an adaptation of the true story of Juan Gabriel to the screen.

“For quite some time we wanted to tell his story. We are confident that we will be able to work closely with the team we have assembled to bring his true legacy to life,” she explained.

Netflix expects production to begin in 2023 on locations that will be in Mexico and the US.

The Netflix one will not be the first documentary related to Juan Gabriel. In 2016, the singer had a biographical series called “Until I met you”, produced by the artist Gabriel himself. It is available on Star+.

Juan Gabriel passed away on August 28, 2016, due to a heart attack. In his 45-year career, the singer became one of the most important references in Latin music on a global level, far beyond the Mexican borders.

The “Divo de Juárez” and marketing

Although few understand it, Juan Gabriel did good marketing. Suffice it to mention that the singer was one of the first promoters of the gay friendly trend. As a person and as a brand, he has always been related to the LGBT community, although when asked if he was gay, he answered the popular phrase “what is seen is not judged”. Thus he managed to focus his public on his various talents and maximize respect for the various sexual preferences.

The “Divo de Juárez” also successfully did social marketing, The musician was also a forerunner among Mexican artists with the creation of “Semjase”, a house for low-income children to study music while they are adopted.
