Tragic Accident: Lake Michigan Body Search and Fundraisers for Amy Kelts’ Funeral Services

CHICAGO, Illinois- The body of the young woman was identified as 20-year-old Amy Kelts. Rescue teams were looking for a missing woman in the waters of Lake Michigan.

According to authorities, the woman was swimming in Lake Michigan and was later reported missing in the waters.

A rescue operation was activated and following the search for the body of the young woman who was found near Foster beach north of the city.

On Thursday, divers from the Chicago Police Marine Unit removed the body shortly before 10 a.m.

The medical examiner’s office identified the person as Amy Kelts, 20, of Aurora.

Lake Michigan body search

A team of divers searched the area not far from Foster Beach for more than 40 minutes until a body was recovered and brought out in a black body bag at the end of the pier.

Police responded Wednesday night to a call from the beach around 8:30 pm for a woman who was swimming in the lake and reportedly missing.

According to witnesses, a young woman was struggling to swim to shore before she sank.

Authorities are calling this incident a tragic accident.

Fundraisers for Amy’s funeral services:

“Amy was swept away by the currents of Lake Michigan. Rescue teams and divers searched for her that night and found her the morning following June 22,” relatives say on the GoFundMe page.

They remember Amy as an amazing daughter, sister and friend.

They hope with this fundraiser to emotionally support their mother and siblings. Since in 2018, according to the collection page, his father would have died.
