Albert Schweitzer Prize for Nursing Science: Honoring Achievements in Geriatric Health and Nursing

The Geriatric Health Centers of the City of Graz presented the “Albert Schweitzer Prize for Nursing Science” for the first time this year to show gratitude to graduates of nursing professions for their achievements in nursing. This sponsorship award honors outstanding scientific theses in nursing that deal with current issues specific to geriatrics and gerontology. The awards are given in the following two categories:

• Bachelor theses and theses from DGKP

• Final theses from PFA Participation requirements are: • The final thesis was written at a university of applied sciences with a focus on health and nursing or at a state nursing school in Styria, Burgenland or Carinthia

• In the work, the focus is on the elderly and/or their caregivers

• The academic thesis was graded very good or good in 2022

• The thesis was not submitted anywhere else for a prize. A high-ranking jury of representatives from science and experts from the health and social sector selected the best nursing science theses from all submitted works with the support of an evaluation form. With the evaluation criteria, a different number of points can be awarded for each evaluation area (a maximum total value of 50 points can be achieved).

The valuation areas are made up as follows:

• Language and expression (including spelling, grammar, gender-appropriate, understandable…) • Form of work (including structure/structure, sources, citation)
• Structure and content (including abstract, introduction, methodology, theory/literature section, results, conclusion, outlook, innovation/added value)

Current jury members are:

Waltraud Haas-Wippel from the ÖGKV
Erika Stelzl from the ÖGKV
• Advanced Practice Nurse Daniel Hausmann from the GGZ
• Hygieneexpertin Christina Statue from the GGZ

The following prize money was determined for the first three places in each category:

1st place: 1,500 euros (Sarah Hiebler) 2nd place: 1,000 euros (Jakob Zechner) 3rd place: 500 euros (Viktoria-Iris Klamler)

The application for payment of the prize money fell unanimously.
