The referendum once morest the reform of the 2nd pillar, launched at the end of March, was successful, the referenda announced on Friday. After two months, it had already collected 120,000 signatures and an “impressive number” of initials will be delivered next Tuesday to the Federal Chancellery.
The exact number will be announced on Tuesday, the referendum committee said Friday. The unions and the left had until July 6 to collect the necessary 50,000 signatures.
In recent weeks, the mobilization has not weakened once morest a project “bad all along the line”, say opponents of the reform. In addition to the unions, the PS and the Greens, the referendum is also supported by the consumer protection magazines “Good to know” and “K-Tipp”.

Lower pensions and compensation
Adopted by Parliament during the spring session, the reform of occupational pensions (LPP21) leads to reductions in pensions of up to 3240 francs per year, according to the referendaries.
The reform provides for a lowering of the conversion rate, from 6.8% to 6%, which has become necessary, according to its supporters, due to the increase in life expectancy. The capital built up by an annuitant during his professional activity will therefore result in a smaller annuity.

Half of the insured persons will benefit from pension compensation, during a transitional period of 15 years. The threshold for access to the second pillar will be lowered, which will allow 100,000 people to be newly or better insured.
Women once more penalized
The referendaries deplore for their part that following raising the retirement age, women will once once more be penalized. The majority of them will suffer reductions in pensions.
They recall that during the vote campaign on AVS21 the bourgeois parties had promised to tackle the problem of too low pensions, in particular those of women.
The social partners and the Federal Council had submitted a “good compromise” to Parliament, “but the lobbies of service providers such as insurance and banks have imposed their own interests on Parliament”, still accuses the referendum committee.
