It is not yet certain that E3 2024 will be attempted, confirms the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The organization has denied the rumors of the last few hours that ensured the cancellation of E3 2024 and 2025, but leaves the future up in the air.

The first information regarding the end of the video game event came from the Los Angeles City Tourism Board, which in one of their meetings on business tourism in Los Angeles cited data that included “E3 cancellations in 2024 and 2025.” Shortly following, ESA responded to the news with a message saying that “there is no final decision” regarding next year: “ESA currently has talks regarding E3 2024 and beyond, and no final decisions have been made regarding the event in this moment”.

“This has been a difficult decision for all the effort that we and our partners have put into making this event happen, but we must do the right thing for the industry and for E3,” said the official E3 2023 statement in which I understood that companies cannot have playable demos ready by date or allocate resources for this fair. ESA and ReedPop assured that they will continue to work together for “future E3 events”.

E3 2023 was canceled in March

He E3 2023 was heralded as the long-awaited return of the show following three years of cancellations due to COVID restrictions. While other events were better adapted to the digital format, E3 was replaced by smaller events wrapped up under the Summer Game Fest. However, this year’s organizer (ReedPop) was unable to pull off the event because she “failed to attract enough interest to execute it in a way that showcased the size, strength and impact of the industry.”

Finally, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest 2023 took its place with a gala that featured ads, plus a whole series of broadcasts from different publishers over several weeks.
