Mecca, June 22 (APS) – Thousands of pilgrims from all continents continue to converge on Mecca, where the Hajj will begin next Monday, APS has found.

The Hajj, which is one of the five pillars of Islam, is due to end around July 1.

Thousands of Muslim faithful, from all over the world, storm the Kaaba, the holiest place in Islam.

For the 2023 edition of Hajj, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has granted a quota of 12,860 pilgrims to Senegal, of which the 11,000 will be transported by private tour operators, the General Delegation for the Pilgrimage to Mecca being called upon to take charge of the rest, that is to say 1,860 pilgrims.

After years of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Saudi authorities want to take advantage of this edition to relaunch the pilgrimage to Mecca. Saudi Arabia had announced that it would not impose limits on the number of pilgrims this year for Hajj.

The Kingdom’s Directorate General of Passports announced on Thursday the arrival of 1,499,472 pilgrims since the start of the Hajj 1444 season, corresponding to the Muslim calendar.

The day of Arafat, the highlight of the pilgrimage, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2023. It is a day when it is recommended to make prayers and invocations.

It coincides with the second day of the pilgrimage, the following day corresponding to the first day of the feast of Aïd-El-Adha, commonly called Tabaski in Senegal and in several countries of the sub-region.
