The US singer Kesha (36, “Tik Tok”) and her former music producer Dr. Luke have settled their long-standing legal battle out of court. They announced this on Thursday (local time) in a joint statement on Instagram. The musician and the producer sued each other in 2014. It was regarding allegations of abuse, defamation and breach of contract. The trial should begin in July. Details of their agreement were not disclosed.
Kesha had accused her producer in lawsuits in New York and California of having manipulated and sexually abused her for years. The music manager, real name Lukasz Gottwald, was then taken to court for breach of contract and defamation. He accused Kesha of pressuring him to get out of her contract early.
In her statement, which has now been released, Kesha admitted she mightn’t remember everything that happened. But she is looking forward to “closing the door behind this chapter of my life and starting a new one”. She wishes everyone involved only peace.
dr Luke wrote in his statement that he was “absolutely” sure nothing happened that night in 2005. “I never drugged or physically assaulted her and would never do that to anyone.” For almost ten years he fought to clear his name. Now it is time to put an end to this difficult matter. He wishes Kesha well, the producer added.
dr Luke, who has worked with the likes of Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson, had been producing music with Kesha since 2005. The singer and songwriter, who rose to fame in 2009 with the hit ‘Tik Tok’, most recently released the albums ‘Gag Order’ (2023) and ‘High Road’ (2020).
