Climate change and the necessary reduction in inputs are at the heart of the projects carried out by the Grand Brûlé wine estate in Leytron (VS). Launched two years ago, this viticulture and oenology testing station brings together researchers and practitioners.
It is a question of adapting to the many challenges with which the viticultural sector is confronted while preserving the quality of the wines, summarized Thursday in front of the press the head of the office valaisan of the vine and the wine Nadine Pfenninger-Bridy . Two years following its official launch and a full year of field activities, the test station has drawn a first positive assessment.
With regard to viticulture, she studies in particular the water supply to the vines during the season. For this, it has a network of 40 plots of Chasselas and Pinot Noir made available by producers, explained Jean-Sébastien Reynard, viticulture manager of the testing station.
This ‘sentinel network’ is an ‘irrigation aid’ for the winegrower and a tool for making the best use of this precious resource, water. The project is to be carried out until 2029.
