A study carried out by the human resources provider SD Worx confirms on Thursday that Belgians are among the most likely to consider their salary to be fair compared to that of their colleagues or other people doing similar work in other organisations.

According to this study, carried out among 16,011 European workers, almost one out of two Belgians (45.1%) considers that his salary conditions are fair compared to those of his peers. This is the highest proportion of the 16 countries surveyed by SD Worx. Germany and Finland follow with nearly four out of ten workers convinced of a salary as fair as that of their colleagues. On the other hand, less than 30% agree with this statement in France and Sweden.

According to the service provider, this Belgian confidence is important, at the dawn of the implementation of a European directive which requires pay transparency for all employees in order to eliminate the pay gap between men and women. Belgium must normally transpose this directive by 2026.

The survey also notes that more than four in ten Belgians (40.9%) consider their salary package fair compared to other people with similar work in other organisations. It is also the highest confidence score at European level ahead of Germany and Ireland. Around a quarter of Belgians (24.2%) however believe that market conformity might be improved.

This SD Worx survey was carried out in February 2023 among 16,011 workers from 16 European countries, namely Belgium, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Ireland. Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
