Importation of Machinery without Customs Taxes: Impact of Law No. 1391 in Bolivia

The National Customs (AN) It registered that in Bolivia, since September 2021, 21,901 machinery were imported without the payment of customs taxes.

The foregoing occurs within the framework of Law No. 1391, which establishes Tax Incentives for the importation of Capital Goods and Industrial Plants for Agricultural, Industrial, Mining and Construction activities.

What was discussed corresponds to the policies of the President of Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacorain favor of the industrialization and economic reactivation of the country, according to the Regional Manager of Cochabamba, Hugo Domínguez.

“Law No. 1391 was approved on August 31, 2021 and Supreme Decree No. 4579 was promulgated on September 1 of that same year; from that date in 2021, 3,237 machines were imported, in 2022 there were 12,885 and until June 13, 2023, 5,779 have already been nationalized, adding a total of 21,901 capital goods, imported by 4,766 operators who availed themselves of this Law ”, Dominguez stated.

The main benefit of Law No. 1391 is the exemption from the payment of Value Added Tax (VAT), through compliance with the requirements established in Supreme Decree No. 4579, with which small, medium and large producers, They can import merchandise related to industrial plants or capital goods.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that this regulation will be valid until September 29 of this year.
