Junior Adamu has made it into the German Bundesliga. The 22-year-old ÖFB team striker changes from series champion Red Bull Salzburg to SC Freiburg and thus becomes a club colleague of attacker Michael Gregoritsch and defense chief Philipp Lienhart. The fifth-placed player in the past season did not provide any details regarding the contract. According to media reports, the transfer fee is in the range of almost ten million euros.

After his stint on loan at FC St. Gallen, Adamu played a total of 84 competitive games for the “Bullen” from the 2021/22 season, scoring 23 goals and eleven assists. Most of the time, however, the striker was overshadowed by colleagues who were even more dangerous. In 2022 Karim Adeyemi (19) became the top marksman in the league, this year Benjamin Sesko (16) was Salzburg’s number one ahead of Adamu (10).

“Junior is an attacking player who can be used in a variety of ways, but who can also play in the middle but can also play hanging. He has an intensive style of play, has a good approach to goal and is at the service of the team,” said Freiburg board member Jochen Saier. The attacker has development potential. “We want to make full use of this by working together.” Adamu had also informed his ÖFB teammates and current teammates regarding the sports club around cult coach Christian Streich beforehand. “SC Freiburg has a very good reputation in Austria,” emphasized Adamu.

The Grazer wants to leave his footprints there. “I want to get even better and assert myself in the German Bundesliga. Freiburg is the right place for that,” said the 1.83 meter man, who was born in Nigeria, and was optimistic regarding the future. The Breisgau team wears number 20 on his shirt and will also wear it internationally. Freiburg qualified for the Europa League via the league.

For the people of Salzburg, the cash register is ringing once more. After Nicolas Seiwald and Benjamin Sesko (both Leipzig), millions in revenue were once more lucrative. “We are proud that one of our players trained in the Red Bull Football Academy was able to prove himself with us and thus make the leap into a big league. Junior has done it over the years in Salzburg with a lot of hard work and great commitment very far and is now going into a big league as an Austrian national team striker,” said Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund.

Adamu completed his sixth international match on Tuesday in the 2-0 win once morest Sweden in the European Championship qualifier until the break and alongside Gregoritsch. “I’m convinced that his style will also prevail in the German Bundesliga,” said Freund.
