It is finally commercially available: Final Fantasy XVI finally marks the great return of the franchise with a completely new opus, available only on PlayStation 5. the technical gluttony of the title.

A real technical promise

Today, Thursday October 22, is a very good day of the week – or even of the year – for all lovers of video games or at least Japanese RPGs. Final Fantasy XVI is released on the market, which was announced three years ago when the PlayStation 5 was revealed. Moreover, Square-Enix gets on really well with Sony since the game is only sold the white monolith and nowhere else. For now, anyway.

Not long ago, game director Hiroshi Takai admitted in an interview that FF16 would make the most of the PS5: “I’ve worked on many machines over the years, and few have found the right balance between hardware capabilities and available memory. But that’s not the case on PS5, which has ample memory to take full advantage of the machine”he blurted, playfully.

Before that once more, Square-Enix ensured that the game was only released on PS5 to take full advantage of its power (and also because a good handshake had to be done behind the scenes). Except that… the machine seems to be at the end of its rope in a very specific situation.

It was on Reddit that small performance problems were finally pointed out. Not that the game was displayed badly or that it had technical problems – on the contrary – but rather that the PS5 was pushed to the limit, (no doubt by a lack of optimization, that said).

Internet user TheSphereHunter thus declared that his console had started to overheat during a boss fight, so much so that it simply shut down when the fight ended. On ResetEra, another player confessed that his machine had also displayed a message, in the middle of the fight once morest the boss of Morbol, indicating that a power off was necessary to cool the system.

Still other players are reporting similar issues during the playable demo. So, is it a question here of a simple lack of optimization… or can the high summer temperatures also be blamed? Have you, yourselves, been victims of such incidents?
