Swiss National Bank Raises Key Rate to 1.75%: Exploring the Recent Increase in Inflationary Pressure

2023-06-22 07:58:40

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) raised its key rate by 25 basis points (bp) on Thursday, bringing it to 1.75%, citing a further recent increase in inflationary pressure in the medium term.

This is the fifth increase decided since July 2022 by the issuing institution, which does not rule out continuing on this path during its periodic review of the country’s economic and monetary situation.

The rate change will come into effect on June 23. Sight deposits held by banks at the SNB will then be remunerated at the rate of 1.25%, ie at the SNB key rate still reduced by 50 basis points.
