25-year-old Markus Thurner from Unterach is fulfilling a childhood dream as DJ Mark Tarro. On July 1st, he will heat up the town festival in Seekirchen.
As a boy he learned classical accordion and drums. No wonder, since his father is a music school teacher and was the conductor of the Gmunden town band for many years. “I played drums in the local traditional costume band in Unterach. Then at the age of 15, when the going away period started, I first came into contact with the DJ sound and that fascinated me immediately,” says Markus Thurner. After that he worked intensively on music and also bought a small piece of equipment that was used at birthday parties with friends. As a solid profession, he chose to train as a bodywork repairman and painter and is currently employed at a car dealership in Mondsee.
Training at the DJ Academy
He also laid the foundations for his career as a DJ in a rock-solid manner. “I did a two-year apprenticeship at a DJ academy in Linz and also learned a lot regarding producing and composing,” says the 25-year-old from Thun, alias DJ Mark Tarro. But a DJ certificate is by no means a guarantee for great performances. “I faced the harsh reality of getting to know the people in the scene and making a name for myself.” The troubles of the beginning included warm-up performances in clubs without a fee. “Meanwhile, I do over 100 well-paid performances a year in front of up to 2,000 people in the audience. I’ve reduced the working hours in the dealership to 30,” says Markus, whose goal is to be able to make a living from music one day. His father, who takes care of management, also supports him.
album sung by myself
Markus does everything to offer the audience behind the podium and at the turntables a great show and to really heat them up on the microphone. Speaking of heating up: he has turned the game with fire into reality on stage and even completed a workshop for fire eaters and fire eaters. “I also produce and have already sung a whole album myself, but I also do projects with other singers,” says the DJ from Attersee. He has deliberately commercialized his style lately and is increasingly devoting himself to Electro House, before Industrial Rock and Hard Style were popular.
The next big appearances by Markus Thurner alias DJ Mark Tarro are at the Seekirchen town festival on July 1st and at the Mondsee lake festival on August 6th. “In Seekirchen I’ll be performing on the Wave 1 stage, at the Seefest two hours before the big fireworks on the main stage.”
In Salzburg, DJ Mark Tarro is best known as a resident DJ at the Lux Club. The Australian DJ Timmy Trumpet is his role model. “Like me, he always goes full throttle on stage. When the audience is having a cool time, so am I, that’s the best.” Info: www.marktarro.at
