ALGIERS- Investment projects registered with the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) since November 1, 2022 have reached more than 2,600 for a value of around $8 billion, we learned from of this agency.
During the period from November 1, 2022 to June 15, 2023, 2,606 projects were recorded, including 2,553 from local investments, while 53 projects were undertaken by foreign operators totaling a declared total amount of 1,084 billion DA ( approximately 8 billion dollars), according to a balance sheet of the AAPI consulted by the APS, on the sidelines of the International Fair of Algiers (FIA).
Over the period from June 15, 2022 to June 15, 2023, a 121% increase in the number of projects was recorded, it was specified.
These projects registered with the AAPI will create 65,792 jobs, added the same source, which specifies that more than half (51%) of the total number of projects is in the industry sector with an amount of 744 billion dinars, followed by the building and public works sectors at 15% and transport at 14%.
In addition, he recorded 166 agricultural projects across the different regions of the country for 49.2 billion DA. These include projects relating to agricultural work and phytosanitary treatment, poultry fattening, industrial hatching and aquaculture.
In the field of tourism, 105 investment projects totaling a declared amount of 47.5 billion AD have been registered at the AAPI level.
These projects relate in particular to the construction of hotel infrastructure (48 projects), attraction sites (21) and tourist complexes or holiday villages (12).
As for the distribution of investment projects by region, AAPI data indicate that 52% (1,356 projects) are located in the north of the country, 30% in the Hauts Plateaux, while 18% are located in the south. from the country.
Furthermore, the Agency’s report notes that the overwhelming majority (99%) of the total number of registered investment projects comes from the private sector, while mentioning that no mixed investment project has been identified during this period.
Regarding the structure of project financing, 51% of these are self-financed, while 49% (1,272 projects) are financed via bank loans, reports the AAPI.
Created in 2022 within the framework of the new law on investment, this agency is responsible for receiving investment projects undertaken by nationals or foreigners in the various economic activities of production of goods and services.
