Saudi Investment Minister Khaled Al-Falih revealed plans to launch several airlines in the Kingdom in the coming period, expecting an announcement soon.
Al-Falih told Al-Arabiya on the sidelines of the Paris Air Show, “Riyadh Airlines will contribute to supporting the Kingdom’s strategies, the most important of which is the tourism strategy and linking Riyadh to world capitals.”
He stated that “Riyadh Airlines will connect the capital with 100 cities around the world,” adding, “Saudi Arabia targets 100 million tourists, of which 70 million are international tourists from long distances.”
He pointed out that Riyadh alone will attract 30 million passengers, and therefore “Riyadh Airlines” needs modern planes such as the “Boeing” planes that were recently contracted.
The minister revealed that “the aviation industry in the Kingdom needs to be linked with global and local supply chains, and thus the purchase of new aircraft is linked to basic local industries such as the aluminum industry in the Kingdom.”
Al-Falih continued, “Riyadh Air planes also have logistical goals, as they not only transport passengers, but also transport goods around the world, so Riyadh will host the largest logistics area in the Middle East.”
He said, “Riyadh will be the logistical capital in the Middle East for the distribution of important materials such as medicines and industrial materials,” pointing out that “Apple” chose Riyadh to be its center in the Middle East.
He explained that “flynas also signed an agreement with Airbus to purchase A320 aircraft,” and this comes in light of the commitment of “flynas” to provide economic airlines for domestic flights and also to connect all international airports in the Kingdom with nearby countries in the Middle East and surrounding areas.
The Minister of Investment stated that the Kingdom is a large country in terms of size, whether in terms of population or economic activity in addition to tourism activity, adding, “The Kingdom deserves a large number of Saudi airlines, in addition to Flynas and Riyadh Airlines, to achieve the strategic and economic goals … and they will be revealed soon.”
