While singer IU’s ‘Pink Shoes’, released in 2013, was embroiled in a plagiarism controversy, the German record label that raised the suspicion and IU’s claims were at odds.

On the 21st, the agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced on the official SNS, “We checked the email received from Nordend Entertainment and replied to it.”

This is a position related to a notice recently posted on the Norden Entertainment Publishing website. Norden Entertainment Publishing is a record label that released the German band Nectar and the sound source ‘Here’s Us’ in 2009. Previously, suspicions of plagiarism arose as some of the melodies of IU’s ‘Pink Shoes’, released in 2013, were similar to ‘Here’s Earth’. At the time, the agency refuted this, saying, “The whole melody, composition, and instrumental arrangement are completely different songs.”

Norden Entertainment Publishing is claiming that they have not received any contact from IU’s side. In a notice they recently posted on their official website, they said, “I was surprised that the production managers at the time contacted us or Nectar to clarify the copyright infringement issue. “This does not match the truth,” it said.

They emphasized that they tried to contact IU to discuss this issue when ‘Pink Shoes’ was released in 2013, but did not receive any reply. The explanation was that on the 28th of last month, an email was sent to EDAM Entertainment, but there was no reply. Norden Entertainment Publishing criticized, “The person in charge is not at all interested in preventing damage to other parties,” and “their actions are damaging the reputation of the Korean music industry.”

In this regard, Edam Entertainment released some of the reply emails that Loen Entertainment sent to Norden Entertainment Publishing following going through a lawyer at the time. The document states, “We are reviewing the issue you mentioned and will reply as soon as the review is complete”, “Please provide copies of the power of attorney properly executed by each person concerned”, “A person known to be a legal representative of a foreign copyright owner has not obtained permission from the copyright owner. There are cases where it has been proven that this is not the case. We are trying to confirm that we are legally authorized legal representatives.” This is a refutation of Norden Entertainment Publishing’s claim that they did not receive an email reply. However, he did not disclose specific positions regarding the allegations of plagiarism. As the arguments of the two sides are mixed, the battle is expected to continue for the time being.
