Morocco’s New Development Model: Achievements, Economic Reforms, and Future Opportunities

“During this high-level international meeting, Morocco will have a unique opportunity to share with the world the great achievements made and the economic reforms undertaken,” said Ms. Fettah during a meeting with the Managing Director of the IMF, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, on a working visit to the Kingdom as part of the preparations for the BM-FMI annual meetings, with Moroccan and foreign students from the Cadi Ayyad University (UCA) of the ocher city.

And the Minister to continue that the New Development Model (NMD) represents one of the great achievements accomplished in the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, indicating that this roadmap is mainly aimed at students and the rising generations. .

Through the New Development Model, Morocco confirms that it has a vision for the future and a long-term action plan, explained the minister, calling on young people to participate massively in the annual assemblies BM- IMF and to offer the example of this culture of hospitality which characterizes the Moroccan people, and of optimism for a better future.

For his part, the President of Cadi Ayyad University (UCA) in Marrakech, Hassan Ahbid, indicated that the visit of the Managing Director of the IMF comes at a decisive moment for the Moroccan university.

“With our supervisory ministry, we are in the process of finalizing the implementation of the new measures developed as part of an action plan aimed at accelerating the transformation of the higher education ecosystem for the next academic year. 2023-2024”, he said, adding that these measures aim to strengthen the quality of higher education and align Moroccan universities with international standards.

Mr. Ahbid stressed that the real strength of the Kingdom lies in its youth, which reflects world citizenship, openness to other cultures and ambition to contribute to global progress. “Thanks to our cross-curriculum programme, our young people have developed exceptional language skills, enabling them to communicate easily with interlocutors of all nationalities,” he said.

And to continue that the university invests in its students as future responsible leaders, capable of actively contributing to the prosperity of Morocco and the world, noting that the students who will participate in the organization of the BM-IMF Annual Meetings have been trained to work in a team, to cultivate their creativity, to solve complex problems and to adapt quickly to new situations.

For her part, Oumaima Najm, a student at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Rabat, indicated in a statement to MAP that the meeting with the Managing Director of the IMF offers a unique opportunity, adding that this kind of meeting constitutes a source of motivation to aspire to the highest ranks.

He added that this meeting was an opportunity to discuss with other students and to share experiences with future leaders, considering that the BM-FMI annual assemblies constitute an opportunity for Moroccan students to highlight their talents.

The Marrakech edition, a first in the Arab world, marks the return of these annual assemblies to Africa, following those held for the first time in Nairobi (Kenya), fifty years ago.
