The commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Hamad Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti”, announced that intensive contacts are taking place to calm the situation in the city of El Geneina in Darfur and to find out the circumstances of the assassination of the governor of West Darfur.
Hemedti added, “We formed an internal investigation committee that will immediately go to the city of El Geneina to investigate the facts regarding the killing of the governor of West Darfur, and we are ready to cooperate with any independent investigation committee.”
Hamidti added, “We have information regarding the army’s intelligence arming parties in West Darfur state to ignite discord.”
He said: “We have enough evidence of recruitment by the army of the sons of the tribes in Darfur to ignite a tribal war in the region.”
The commander of the Rapid Support Forces said in an audio recording that “the war in Sudan will be a bridge to establishing a civil and democratic state,” according to the Arab World News Agency.
Hamidti stated that he had issued orders to his forces not to interfere in the tribal conflict in El Geneina, but “the army participated with tanks and heavy weapons,” as he put it.
Earlier, the governor of the Darfur region, Minni Arko Minawi, said, on Tuesday, that what is happening in El Geneina and muted are “complete crimes”, and the assassinations that are taking place may lead society to slip into “civil war”.

He called on the Security Council to support the International Criminal Court in the investigation of the assassinations and crimes that took place in Darfur, stressing by saying: “I call on the parties to the conflict in Sudan to sit at the negotiating table to end the war.” The governor of the region also called on the African Union to have a role in resolving the crisis “without politicizing regional movements.”
In other statements, Minawi said that the circumstances of the war in Sudan led to the explosion of the situation in large parts of the region due to the sensitivity of the situation there. The governor of the Darfur region stressed that accurate and transparent investigations must be conducted to bring the perpetrators immediately to justice, indicating that they tried to contain the disaster by communicating with the native administration and military forces.
