MUMBAI: IIT Bombay alumnus and Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani is worth Rs 315 crore. This is the largest contribution by an alumni to an educational institution in India. Nilekani joined IIT Bombay in 1973 for his graduation in electrical engineering.
Nilekani and IIT Bombay Director Prof. Subhasis Chaudhary also signed in Bengaluru. According to the MoU, this amount will be used for world-class infrastructure development and research in various engineering and technical fields.
Nilekani said that IIT Bombay was the most important step in his life. “The basis of the journey of life was from here. 50 years of association with this institution. Grateful to be able to contribute to its future” – says Nilekani.
He served as the Chairman of the Board of IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation from 1999 – 2009. He was also on the Board of Directors from 2005–2011. Earlier, Nilekani had given regarding Rs 85 crore for construction of new hostel buildings and other infrastructure development. IIT Bombay plans to raise a total of over US$ 500 million from alumni and others.
