Yesterday, Draymond Green declined his player option to become a free agent and obtain a new contract. Simple formality to better extend to the Warriors or first step of a future departure? Rest assured Golden State fans, Draymond should stay in San Francisco.
The latest update on the Green dossier comes to us from Adrian Wojnarowski ofESPN, the famous insider who spoke with both Draymond’s agent (Rich Paul) and the new boss of Warriors basketball operations, Mike Dunleavy Jr.. What did he take away from these discussions? Draymond Green and the Warriors will extend the adventure together. All that remains is to negotiate certain elements of the future contract, such as its duration.
“There is a desire on both sides to stay together. […] We have to see if it’s a three-year or four-year deal, but I don’t see a scenario where the talks can go off the rails. Of course, it can always happen to the Free Agency, but the two parties are destined to find each other.”

No surprise here given what has been said publicly from both Draymond’s side and the Warriors’ side. Green has indeed repeatedly stressed his desire to spend his entire career with the Warriors, alongside his great buddies Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson as well as his coach Steve Kerr, with whom he won four NBA titles. As for Mike Dunleavy Jr., successor to Bob Myers at the head of the Dubs, he affirmed his desire to extend Draymond during his press conference yesterday (via ESPN).
“We really want to bring Draymond Green back. What he means for the franchise, to win at the highest level, we have to keep him.
As you have understood, Draymond Green’s contract extension is more or less a formality, and we would be very surprised to see a new deal fall through despite the last details to be settled.
The real question is whether this extension will have an impact on other elements of the workforce, in particular Jordan Poole. As a reminder, the latter received a big contract from the Warriors during the 2022 offseason, the offseason where he also received a… punch in the face from Draymond. An episode that disrupted Golden State all season, but in the end Poole also seems to be in the Warriors’ long-term plans.
“We plan to keep Poole for four more years, at least.”
– Mike Dunleavy Jr.
