Airbus has just won the largest aircraft order in the history of commercial aviation, according to “CNN”.
The European company announced on Monday that the Indian low-cost airline IndiGo had placed an order for 500 of its A320 planes. The devices must be delivered between 2030 and 2035.
The deal sets “the record for the largest single purchase contract in commercial aviation history,” Airbus (EADSY) said in a statement.
The total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by IndiGo is now 1,330.
According to IndiGo chief executive Pieter Elbers, the agreement with Airbus will allow the company to “fulfill its mission to continue to drive economic growth, social cohesion and mobility in India”.
Founded in 2006, IndiGo dominates the market in India. The company carried 86 million customers, according to its website.
