Apple’s popular product, AirPods, work best when used with iPhones, iPads, and Macs. But even with non-Apple products, including the Nintendo Switch game console, they work as great wireless headphones. ⓒ Foundry Here, we explain how to connect AirPods to Nintendo Switch. It used to be cumbersome and required an adapter, but a software update a few years ago made it very simple. Check the switch software version It is important to note that the switch’s firmware must be at least version 13.0.0. This is because Bluetooth audio accessory support was added via a software update released in the fall of 2021. Check the software version according to the following procedure. Turn on the switch. From the home screen, go to System Settings. It’s the gear icon, and if you’re using a touchscreen, you’ll need to tap it three times. Scroll down to System. Check the version you are using in the System Update section. In the screenshot below, I’m using Switch version 16.0.3, so I can easily connect my Bluetooth audio accessories. If you’re using a version earlier than 13.0.0, an update will be waiting for you, and you’ll need to follow the instructions to install it. ⓒ How to pair the Foundry switch with AirPods Go to the ‘Bluetooth Audio’ item on the system settings screen (in my device, it is the fourth item, but if the software is a version older than 13.0.0, the item will not be displayed). Before selecting Add Device here, you need to make sure that the AirPods are connectable. Open the lid with the AirPods in the case, then press and hold the button on the back. You have to press it until you hear a ping sound and the front light starts flashing white (the white light comes on as soon as you press the button, but you have to keep holding the button until it flashes). Now that your AirPods are in pairing mode, you can find them in your Switch’s Settings. In summary, it is as follows. Go to System Settings on your Switch. Go to Bluetooth Audio. With the AirPods case lid open, insert the AirPods into the case and press and hold the back button until you hear a ping sound and the front light blinks white. Tap Register on the Switch. ⓒ The Foundry switch searches for available Bluetooth audio accessories within range. When it finds your AirPods, the Switch will display the name of the AirPods so you can confirm they are the right devices. If everything looks correct, tap the AirPods to complete the pairing process. ⓒ Foundry The connection between the AirPods and the switch was very simple. Plug in your AirPods and enjoy high-quality audio while playing games. How to Disconnect AirPods If you need to remove AirPods that have been registered to the Switch, go back to the Bluetooth Audio section of System Settings, select the device in question, and tap ‘Unregister’. ⓒ Foundry [email protected]
