Os AirPods Maxdespite being the most expensive model in Apple’s line of headphones and the only over-ear, they are already two and a half years old. They won’t even get the new features announced at WWDC23 for the second-generation AirPods Pro. In this way, rumors have already accounted for a new generation of the product for some time, although speculation has not yet materialized.
In this context, the designer Parker Ortolani was inspired by the presentation of the Apple Vision Pro and created a concept of a second generation of AirPods Max. The headphones imagined by him incorporate some elements of the headset, such as the band that attaches it to the user’s head, which gives a certain cohesion to the Apple product line.

According to what was imagined by Ortolani, the range coming from the Vision Pro would make the AirPods Max have a capacity that is certainly very much in demand by users: that of being foldable – something that would facilitate transport. In addition to being more comfortable and breathable, there would be a tool on the side to adjust the headset to the most suitable size for your head — just like the Apple headset.
Another interesting point in the concept is the MagSafe connector, which, for the designer, might not only serve to charge the phone, but also as an audio port. Also included are refined pillows, as well as a redesigned ventilation structure, with holes in the underside of the capsules.
In addition, Ortolani thought of something that will certainly be present in a next generation of AirPods Max, which is the H2 chip. It equips the second generation of the Pro model and it is precisely this component that enables support for new features, such as Adaptive Audio and Custom Volume.
With that, the most advanced model would finally gain these more advanced functions. Along with this, the U1 chip would also bring to the headphones another feature reserved for the second generation AirPods Pro, which is the Precise Search in the application. Look for (Find My) in case you lose your device.
Finally, the concept brings new colors to the AirPods Max. Contrary to other rumors, which thought of colors closer to what we have on entry-level iPhones, for example, Ortolani idealized the headphones in four options identical to those of the newer MacBooks Air, with an M2 chip: midnight, silver, stellar and space grey.
While a design change like the one envisioned by the designer regarding the range is unlikely, it would be interesting to see two products share such a specific design element. Moreover, the concept incorporated improvements that are already very expected for a second generation of AirPods Max, which really should be included with a possible launch of the product.
