Bhubaneshwar: Kerala’s Ansi Sojan wins gold in women’s long jump in national and inter-state athletics. Ansi, who had already qualified for the Asian Games, jumped to the golden achievement.
The player won the gold with a distance of 6.51 meters. Uttar Pradesh’s Shaili Singh cleared 6.49m to win the silver and Andhra Pradesh’s Bhavani Yadav Bhagwati won the bronze with 6.44m.
He cleared 6.49 meters in the qualifying round and qualified for the ANCI Asian Games. There was a fierce fight between Shaili and Ansi. Ansi cleared 6.44 meters in her fourth attempt. Shaili had cleared 6.49 meters in his second attempt. The player cleared 6.47 meters in the fifth attempt. But in her fifth attempt, Ansi cleared 6.51m to surpass Shaili.
Kerala’s other medal hopeful Nayana James finished fourth. The star’s best performance was 6.41 meters. Another Kerala player Neena V was satisfied with eighth position.
