LUCKNOW, India (Archyde.com) – At least 54 people have died in the past few days in the Baria district of northern Uttar Pradesh, where a heat wave has struck, the Times of India reported. The government is investigating the cause of death.
At least 45 people died in neighboring Bihar, according to local newspapers.
The Meteorological Department of India last week issued warnings of extreme heat in some areas, including the two states. Temperatures have soared to nearly 45 degrees Celsius in recent days in the Barrier district, and there is also a serious power crisis.
