The crews of the frigate “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov” and the ship “Pizhma” of the Russian Federation rescued passengers of a ship in distress under the flags of Germany and Greece last night in the Mediterranean Sea.

– Tonight, the crews of the frigate “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov” of the Northern Fleet, performing tasks as part of the permanent formation of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea, and the cargo ship “Pyzhma” escorted by it, rescued 68 passengers of the foreign vessel “Avalon”, which was in distress in the territorial waters of Greece – reported on June 19 in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

It is specified that the military frigate of the Russian Federation, which was going to the Syrian port of Tartus in the southern Aegean Sea, was the first to receive a distress signal from the Avalon vessel. After that, the Russian ships changed course, heading for help.

The rescued were evacuated aboard the cargo ship Pizhma, where they were provided with the necessary medical assistance, and taken to the bay of the island of Kalymnos. There they were transferred to boats of the Greek Coast Guard.

Recall that the attack of six drone boats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was repelled in the Black Sea by the ship “Priazovye” on the night of June 11. And on May 24, the Russian ship Ivan Khurs, which was on a similar mission 140 kilometers northeast of the Bosphorus Strait, repelled an attack by three UAV drone boats.
