Released in early June, Diablo IV had a thunderous launch. Sales have not been disclosed, but we know that Blizzard’s title has grossed over $666 million in just five days. Now we are waiting for the launch of the first season, the outlines of which have recently been unveiled. If it is not faultless, the title is defended tooth and nail by some of the players.
Diablo IV: a successful launch and a first season is approaching
Diablo IV is a massive game. Eleven years following a widely divided Diablo III, the franchise is back with an opus as rich as it is vast. The launch took place without major server issueswhich greatly reassured players traumatized by the now legendary error 34 of Diablo 3. Announced several years ago, Diablo IV takes the form of an open world where all areas are connected to each other.
And as much to say that Sanctuary has never been so vast ! In addition to this huge map to explore, players can discover and clear strongholds, caves, and dungeons while progressing through the main story, battling other players, or collaborating in special events. Players are still discussing balances and improvements to be made, what Blizzard responded with a first Campfire broadcast a few days ago, but it was a very particular tweet that unleashed the crowd.
“It’s lazy”… a Destiny 2 developer criticizes a very specific Diablo IV mechanic
A social media user has indeed given his opinion on a very specific aspect of Diablo IV, and the tweet might have gone unnoticed if he hadn’t fallen into Mike Ybarra’s flow, the boss of Blizzard. Posted by Chad Jessup, Destiny 2 developer at Bungie, the tweet points to upgrading the power of enemiesand does so in a rather aggressive which obviously did not please either the management of Blizzard, or the hundreds of players who did not fail to react.
Diablo IV is proof of this, scaling the level of enemies is one of the worst ideas in video games. It’s lazy, destroys certain playstyles, ruins enemy build-up, it just sucks. I have never heard of anyone who liked this kind of system. I’m sure there are people who like it, they’re wrong.
A rather peremptory turn, to which Mike Ybarra therefore reacted with a “Pretending, huh.” Visibly motivated by Ybarra’s reaction, hundreds of comments have been posted and, as you can imagine, many of them are even less diplomatic. For many, the opportunity was too good to do not strongly criticize Destiny 2 while dropping a few insults in passing. Chad Jessup quickly tried to defuse the situation by explaining his point of view more calmly and recalling that he considered Diablo IV as an excellent game, but nothing helped. Faced with the flood of comments, the developer at Bungie has simply made the choice to delete his tweet and restrict access to their account.
