Several train lines in the Paris region are disrupted on Sunday at the end of the day, with passengers forced to stay at the platform, due to incidents linked to thunderstorms in northern France, SNCF said.

Traffic is interrupted on certain lines, departing from the Gare du Nord in particular, “following the passage of thunderstorms” with “branches on a certain number of tracks”, SNCF told AFP.

“For security reasons, some trains are held” at the station, such as those on the Paris-Amiens axis, added a spokesperson for the group. Other trains in the direction of Laon or Beauvais, which remained at the platform earlier in the followingnoon, were however able to leave.

In Ile-de-France, lines P, H, E, L were interrupted around 7 p.m. due to weather conditions, according to the SNCF website. Line C was also interrupted because of a tree “fallen on the track in Vitry sur Seine”, as was line A because of an “obstacle on the track”.

On the other hand, on the Paris-Creil axis, “traffic is interrupted between Paris Nord and Orry la Ville following an abnormal shock. The customers of the trains concerned are being evacuated”, it is indicated. “Violent thunderstorms in the area are also disrupting train traffic. The normal resumption of traffic is estimated at 9 p.m.”.

Forty-four departments, from the South-West to Normandy and Hauts de France via the Centre, Ile-de-France, the north of the Massif-Central and the north of the Pays de la Loire, are on orange alert Sunday for thunderstorms, said Météo-France.
