Surviving a Terrifying Dog Attack in Wasseiges: Freddy Libioulle’s Nightmare

He tries to forget this nightmare. Since Tuesday evening, Freddy Libioulle leaves his house with apprehension. At the age of 80, he does not want to relive the misadventure suffered during the course of the evening when he was at his home in rue du Baron d’Obin, in Wasseiges (in the province of Liège).

“Two angry dogs in front of me, determined to bite me”

It was 9:45 p.m. when Freddy Libioulle headed for his garden to water his tomatoes. “Arriving at the back of my property, I found myself faced with two furious dogs who had come to my house,” he explains. “They were determined to bite me. I tried to protect myself as best I might with the watering can I had in my hand, but one of them finally managed to bite my leg.

A scene that lasted regarding ten minutes, but which seemed extremely long for the octogenarian. “I was stuck between a wall and those two beasts. I did not see how I was going to get out of this situation”, he continues. “Fortunately, at one point the two dogs were distracted by further barking in the distance in the street. They left the place, before coming back and finally leaving for good. I then knew how to escape.”

Freddy Libioulle was directly taken care of by having his injury noted by a doctor. “He gave me antibiotic treatment and I got the tetanus shot.”

Knowing where the two incriminated dogs came from who escaped the vigilance of their owners, the octogenarian went to their home, where no one deigned to open to him immediately. Not having been able to sleep that night, Freddy Libioulle returned there the next day when a lady promised him that her husband would come to meet him. In vain.

Determined that such a mishap cannot happen once more, the Wasseigeois went twice to the police station in the Hesbignon locality, but he was unable to file a complaint, for lack of a police officer present. By calling the central number of the local police in the West Hesbaye area, he was finally able to get an appointment on Wednesday of this week to file a complaint there.

Another incident this Friday evening

Another resident was attacked on Friday. A man who was walking in the rue du Baron d’Obin was also attacked by, it seems, the same two mastiffs. One of the dogs tore the bag he was carrying.

Contacted this Sunday, the mayor of Wasseige Thomas Courtois had not yet been made aware of the situation.
