Jean-Michel Dufaux continues to introduce Asia to his friend Benoit Roberge. After Thailand last year in Thai Towerthe two men put down their suitcases in Vietnam, a less and less well-kept secret among travelers interested in the most populated continent on the planet.
Regulars of the Évasion channel, the two hosts introduce us to a more modern country than the idea that we can have of it in Tadam Vietnam, new meeting starting this Monday. It’s more the images of the terrible war between Vietnam and the United States that come to mind when it comes to this state of 97 million inhabitants, so the opportunity is great to change all that in our minds.
There are so many people everywhere, as seen in the first episode set in Ho Chi Minh City, that it can be hazardous to even cross the street at a pedestrian crossing. Especially with 12 hours of shift in the body and following 24 hours spent “in prison”, in the air and in airports. “It’s a pain that is worth it,” said Jean-Michel Dufaux to the QMI Agency.
“I started going to Asia in 1998,” he continued. It is a continent that fascinates me and that I love very much. It’s like another planet on our planet. It’s a complete change of scenery and all the referents are different. You are in demand all the time; the colors, the smells, the world, the bubbling, it’s peace in the shambles. Thailand was his “first crush”, but he discovered Vietnam in 2010 and has since returned five times.
Jean-Michel guides Benoit in the main sites not to be missed and off the traditional tourist routes. “We wanted a balance between the essentials and my favorites,” said Jean-Michel.
“It’s as if I wasn’t hosting, I just had to be myself and have fun,” said Benoit, who didn’t always know what was waiting for him for more spontaneity. “I’m just reacting, like I did at Europe Express.” Benoit evokes a country where kindness is essential as well as security.
Speaking ofEurope Expresstheir first duo show dating from 2003-2004, the two men somehow wink at this other series of Escape and their friendship thanks to Tadam Vietnam. At the time, they had left in pairs and had traveled through the old countries. Two decades later, they have a small team and no longer sleep in filthy hotels. “There are very nice hotels in Vietnam for less than Victoriaville in the summer!” Benoit laughed.
In Tadam Vietnam, the two accomplices spoil themselves by eating the most succulent, especially in the street, where they are never disappointed. Their complicity is palpable and the humor is always present, with enough information to interest us in Vietnam, both traditional and modern. “The show looks like a trip you would take without a camera,” said Jean-Michel.
We love the beautiful landscapes, the rhythm, the music and the nervous camera of director Ian-Mathieu Ouellet.
Produced by Zone3, in collaboration with Quebecor Content, the seven episodes of Tadam Vietnam air on Évasion every Monday at 9 p.m. starting June 19.
