Skoda Excels at Bodensee-Klassik Rally with Matthias Kahle and Vintage Classics

Skoda is involved in the three-day young and vintage rally Bodensee-Klassik from Thursday to Saturday (May 6, 2023). The seven-time German Rally Champion Matthias Kahle takes to the track in the legendary Skoda 130 RS, and with the Felicia Cabriolet Skoda sends a real export hit from the 1960s. As a vehicle partner, Skoda is providing four battery-electric Enyaq Coupé RS iV and ten Karoq for the support and organization team.

For the tenth time, the border triangle of Germany, Austria and Switzerland will serve as a picturesque backdrop to the Bodensee-Klassik. On the occasion of this anniversary, sporting director Armin Schwarz – who drove a total of five seasons with Skoda in the World Rally Championship between 1999 and 2005 – once once more selected scenic routes around Germany’s largest inland waterway. The start and finish of all three daily stages of the tour organized by the trade magazines “Auto Bild” and “Auto Bild Klassik” is the Friedrichshafen trade fair, where the Klassikwelt Bodensee (5th to 7th May) is taking place at the same time this weekend.

Matthias Kahle has been in motorsport for around 30 years and is by far the most successful German driver following Walter Röhrl, not least because of his eight national titles (7 x German Rally Championship, 1 x German Rally Series). Kahle mostly drove a Skoda and has therefore been associated with the company as a brand ambassador for many years. In this role, the native of Görlitz is still often and enthusiastically behind the wheel of a historic Skoda at events such as the Bodensee-Klassik.

Also known as the ‘Porsche of the East’, the Skoda coupé has long been a regular fixture at historic classic and rally events. Between 1975 and 1980, Skoda had produced almost 200 examples of the compact, 130 hp rear-wheel drive in both rally and racing versions.

Skoda is sending the Felicia Cabriolet to the starting line as the second vehicle. With its graceful lines, what is probably the most popular Czech model with a fabric roof already captivated the public at its world premiere on March 1, 1959. It also made company history as an export hit: the brand exported more than two-thirds of the 14,863 units built up to 1964. The four-cylinder in-line petrol engine with OHV valve control and 1,089 ccm displacement under the front hood achieves its peak output of 50 hp at 5500 revolutions per minute (rpm). The maximum torque of 74.5 Newton meters is already available at 3500 rpm. The cabriolet rolls on 15-inch wheels and reaches a maximum speed of 130 km/h. (awm)
