due to drought and frost, an environmental alert is in force

As of June 1, an environmental alert is in effect throughout the province of Córdoba due to the risk of fires. Governor Juan Schiaretti has announced that this measure will be extended until December 31, 2023, inclusive.

This measure prohibits “igniting any type of fire and carrying out any activity that may cause fires.” It is implemented in a context in which the conditions typical of the autumn and winter seasons are aggravated by drought, frost and heat waves.

The secretary of Irrigation Management, Claudio Vignetta, has clarified that in Córdoba it is forbidden to make fires throughout the year, but as of the entry into force of this decree, the exception allowed for the months of January to June, in which authorized controlled or prescribed burning.

Since the prohibition on making fires applies to any type of activity, both public and private, the secretary has specified that it includes burning garbage, burning pruning remains, the use of clay ovens without spark arresters and any tool that generate sparks and may start a fire.

Although for the moment it has been established in this way, the norm clarifies that if the climatic conditions change, the validity of the decree might be shortened.

prevention recommendations

  • Do not use fire without having obtained a controlled burning permit.
  • Do not burn pruning remains, garbage, stubble and weeding of land.
  • Carry out preventive practices that are within your reach on each property, such as: fire-break streets, cleaning of wire fences and construction of water reservoirs.
  • Do not throw lit matches in the fields, forests or wooded areas.
  • Do not make bonfires, except in places authorized for this purpose (camping, complexes, camps, etc.)
  • Do not light fire under the trees.
  • Keep in mind that the wind can spread a small fire causing a fire.
  • Do not throw cigarette butts in the field.

If a fire starts in the grass, extinguish it by hitting the flame with a blanket or bag, if possible wet. Remember that in the presence of a fire it is recommended to contact the following numbers and follow the instructions:
