Ten dead lambs were discovered by their farmer on Sunday morning in the municipality of Rußbach am Pass Gschütt in Salzburg’s Tennengau on the border with Gosau in Upper Austria. The state’s wolf commissioner, Hubert Stock, examined the crack pattern and took DNA samples for analysis. Another wolf attack is suspected. It would be the sixth incident of this kind since mid-May, the state of Salzburg reported in a press release.

Deputy Governor Marlene Svazek (FPÖ) called for a change to “wolf-free zones in alpine areas”. It is currently assumed that there are three to four lone wolves in the area between Pinzgau and the Salzkammergut.

Only last Sunday was a similarly large suspected wolf tear with two dead sheep and eight dead lambs discovered in Saalfelden (Pinzgau). The previous Saturday, ten torn sheep were discovered in the Maria Alm district of Hinterthal. They may also have fallen victim to a wolf.
