At their annual meetings scheduled for October in Marrakech
Event : It is preparing thoroughly for the next annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the IMF (International Monetary Fund) scheduled for October 13 to 16 in Marrakech. The contours are revealed Thursday in Rabat during a workshop marked by the participation of the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance.
“Our teams are mobilized. There is even a national committee chaired by the head of government”. Thus presents the director of administrative and general affairs at the ministry, Mohamed El Kharmoudi, this event as a prelude to its organization soon. The speaker also announced other participants in this event and its preparation, such as the governor of Bank Al-Maghrib and the wali of the Marrakech-Safi region.

The ministerial department wants to make these meetings a success. “Our objective is the success of this event intended to find a framework for the main reforms”, specifies the representative of the ministry who wants to make it a “Moroccan success story”. Beyond these preparations, these high-level meetings plan to tackle a crucial subject.

It is, according to David Theis, spokesman for the World Bank, “extreme poverty”. In this sense, he expresses himself on the treatment of this problematic in such a manifestation as a first.
In this regard, the speaker told ALM: “Extreme poverty is a main challenge”. Meanwhile, there are examples of regions suffering from it in Africa and Asia. For him, it is also a question of “helping countries to face these challenges, including poverty”. In this regard, he cites aid for access to energy and agriculture. “40% of crops can be spoiled for lack of road infrastructure”, he explains, also illustrating with the case of hospitals which do not have refrigeration for medicines and schooling of children without the need to resort to candles. to study. “Our goal was to reduce poverty to level 0 in 2030. But it is not yet achievable by this horizon,” he adds. In addition, there will be talk of “climate change and war”. For his part, Alex Segura-Ubiergo, adviser to the IMF, reveals the missions of the Fund which is also interested in “capacity development”. According to him, it is also a question of “maintaining macro-economic stability”. “It’s always the poor who suffer the most,” he continues.
What abound in the direction of extreme poverty, object of the next assemblies. “We are also working on social spending, growth and investments to create jobs,” he says, recalling the priorities of each country. In this sense, the spokesperson for the World Bank, which offers assistance in terms of socio-economic protection once morest external shocks, explains: “There is a balance to be struck between the measures taken and the socio-economic repercussions on the citizens”.
