Yust Liège: The Ultimate Rooftop Escape in the Heart of the City

2023-06-17 13:32:00

Everyone is welcome there, tourist for a day or Liégeois forever. It is accessed via a door to the left of the main entrance, which takes the customer directly by lift to the roof of Liège, open only between April and October. The door opens onto an imposing flowered plant wall. At the end of the corridor: a feeling of escape in the heart of the city. Upon arrival, the customer sits where they want, scans the QR code and orders. The menu allows you to compose between soft drinks, wines and cocktails, including fries, bravas potatoes, snacks to share and burgers. Count €3 for a soft drink, ten euros for a cocktail, and €12 for a burger. The rooftop has waiters (mostly students), bar and kitchen to satisfy customers. “Once the order is placed with his phone, the order is delivered to the table”, says Marjorie Piette, general manager at Yust Liège, comfortably installed in the new decor wanted this year “Guinguette atmosphere, and that it is visible from the outside to make you want to go upstairs”, with tables, chairs, armchairs, parasols, palm trees and lanterns. What give a taste of vacation without leaving the city.

Events

The 300 m² rooftop can accommodate up to 150 people standing and 90 seats. The average age is very young, between 20 and 30 years old. “It’s mainly people from Liège. We also have customers who come with family or more international guests who stay in our 40-room hotel”, or backpackers who sleep in one of the ten dormitories. The terrace below is reserved for “long stay” customers, those staying between one month and one year in one of the 50 apartments, “fully furnished and equipped”. The rooftop also attracts workers “who come with colleagues for a drink following their day’s work”.

Open since May 16, 2022, the Yust rooftop and its building are located in the heart of the new Paradis Express eco-district developed by Matexi in the rapidly changing Guillemins district, at the foot of the Finance Tower. This new mixed district (housing, offices and shops) connects the station to the Parc de la Boverie via the Belle Liégeoise footbridge which spans the Meuse.

Events are also held there. “We try to do one big DJ party a month,” notes the general manager. A pre-Ardentes evening is scheduled for July 5th. “We also organize open-air cinema sessions, yoga classes, Yoga/DJ sessions, local markets…”. Yust’s advantage? “I think we have the most beautiful view of Liège, especially at sunset. We have height and we are cut off from the rest of the city so that we forget that we are there”.

The rooftop is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m.
