London: Britain witnessed the first official birthday celebrations of King Charles III following becoming king. Charles took part in the proud Trooping the Color parade on The Mall in London yesterday on horseback. It is the first time since Queen Elizabeth in 1986 that a British ruler has been part of the Trooping the Color parade on horseback. About 1,500 soldiers, 400 musicians and 200 horses participated in the parade. Along with Charles and Queen Camilla, Charles’ son William and his family lined the balcony of Buckingham Palace to witness a flypast of military aircraft in Charles’ honor. Around 70 aircraft of the British Army participated in the flypast. Thousands of people including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak witnessed the parade. Charles’ youngest son Harry and his wife Meghan, who are living in the US following abdicating their royal duties, were not invited to the ceremony. Meanwhile, 74-year-old Charles’ actual birthday is November 14. But the official birthday celebration of British rulers is traditionally celebrated on a Saturday in the month of June. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth, Charles, the Crown Prince, officially assumed the throne on September 10 at St. James’s Palace in London. His coronation took place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.
