Sudanese Health Minister Haitham Ibrahim said, on Saturday, that more than 3,000 people have been killed and 6,000 injured since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan in mid-April.

Archyde.com news agency quoted televised statements made by Ibrahim that half of Khartoum’s 130 hospitals are still operating and that all West Darfur state hospitals are out of service.

On Saturday, neighborhoods in the south of the Sudanese capital were subjected to air strikes, which led to civilian deaths, as battles continued between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Since April 15, Khartoum and Sudanese regions have been witnessing several battles between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, with which all efforts for a solution and the vast majority of ceasefire agreements have failed.

The conflict exacerbated the crises afflicting Sudan, one of the poorest countries in the world even before the battles, and affected all aspects of life for its population, estimated at more than 45 million people.

Previous figures published by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED) reported that more than 2,000 people were killed, but the actual numbers may be much higher, according to relief agencies and international organizations.

Likewise, the battles have displaced more than 2.2 million people, more than 528,000 of whom have sought refuge in neighboring countries, according to the latest data of the International Organization for Migration.
