Quinnen Williams is in the middle of contract negotiations with the New York Jets. Recently, however, the defensive tackle has increasingly been on a confrontational course with his current employer. If the breakup does happen, the NFL star might consider joining the Chicago Bears.
At least that’s what Tyler Sullivan from “CBS Sports” assumes. In the reporter’s opinion, the NFC North franchise represents the ideal landing spot for Williams.
“At just 25, Williams would fit seamlessly into the young core of the Bears, and head coach Matt Eberflus, a former defensive coordinator, would certainly be happy to sign a player of his caliber and jump-start his defense into 2023 and beyond,” Sullivan said.
The journalist also noted that Chicago has the largest cap space in the NFL. The organization might therefore give Williams “the contract he is looking for.”
In New York, the defensive player has been waiting for months for an attractive offer from the Jets. Williams recently unfollowed the gang Green on Twitter due to his dissatisfaction. Furthermore, he did not take part in the voluntary training sessions to which his team invited from April 17th.
NFL: Quinnen Williams is simply not needed in Chicago
The Chicago Bears have landed several good deals this offseason. Sullivan certainly associated the NFL franchise with Williams because of that wise decision. It is precisely those obligations that almost rule out a trade.
In the spring, the Bears strengthened their defense with players like TJ Edwards and Tremaine Edwards. The team also used the NFL Draft to pick three defensive tackles in Gervon Dexter Sr., Zacch Pickens and Travis Bell.
Those responsible should therefore show little interest in signing Quinnen Williams because his position is covered.
