The 1st Flute World Cup took place on Saturday in Tolochenaz (VD). Organized by the Vaudois Brotherhood of Knights of Good Bread, the competition brought together 50 competitors, including around thirty Vaudois. It is a baker from Vallorbe who wins this 2023 edition.
Anthony Coudray of the enKA bakery finished first out of the ten finalists selected on June 6 among all the initial participants for Saturday’s final, Pascal Clément, baker in Daillens, vice-grand master of the bakery, told Keystone-ATS. Brotherhood and leader of this Mondial.
For this first international savory stick championship, so much appreciated as an aperitif, which took place at the Cave de La Côte, only plain butter flutes were allowed.
The world champion baker won a trophy and a gold medal. In second place, the bakery Chez Séverine & Luca in Lausanne, and in third place, the Confiserie Christian Boillat, each also won a gold medal. The other seven finalists received a diploma. The top ten were all Vaudois.
Dittli as godmother
Their flaky and crispy delights were tasted by a jury made up of five personalities, including State Councilor Valérie Dittli, godmother of this World Cup, and six professionals, explained Mr. Clément. It was chaired by Sébastien Knecht, head of the Richemont vocational school in Romandie.
The bakers were judged and scored on the following criteria: the general appearance of the flute, its color, its texture, its taste, its size and its regularity.
As its name suggests, this Mondial is therefore open to companies in the sector coming from abroad, but on condition that they produce and market their flutes themselves. ‘For this first edition, we received 54 registrations and kept 50 valid. Most came from French-speaking Switzerland, and especially from the canton of Vaud, but we also had a German candidate, a Ticino and a French, from Burgundy, ”said Mr. Clément.
This Mondial de la flûte will be held every two years. The event is part of the promotion of bakery products, underlines the Swiss Association of Baker-Confectionery Owners (BCS). The trophy will remain in the possession of the winner during this interval, before being passed on to the winner of the following edition.
