Vitamin D: Beware of interactions

- Blood pressure lowering agents: If you take prescription blood pressure medications containing hydrochlorothiazide and chlortalidone, your calcium levels will increase. A lower dosage makes sense here.
- Drugs used to treat a dyslipidemia (caused by an elevated cholesterol level): Preparations such as cholestyramine and colestipol should be taken at a time interval from vitamin D supplements. Both active ingredients can impair the absorption of vitamin D from the intestine into the blood. Therefore, take the sunshine vitamin two hours later.
- Vitamin D fortified products: If you are supplementing vitamin D, you should not also consume other vitamin D-fortified products such as multivitamin juices or effervescent tablets.
