Promoting Sexual Health Awareness and HIV Screening: Regional Campaign in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin

2023-06-16 20:07:22

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) and COREVIH launched an information and awareness campaign dedicated to the month of sexual health at the beginning of June. Next week will be more particularly dedicated to screening and constitutes a high point for the actors of our territories, to communicate on the importance of HIV screening as a major pillar of diversified prevention and to strengthen screening actions as close as possible to the populations.

This initiative therefore aims to encourage responsible sexuality, through numerous actions in the field, in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin.

This prevention campaign represents a health challenge that is all the more important in the context of a decline in the rate of detection of HIV infection and sexually transmitted infections.

According to the latest data from Public Health France, if the post-covid resumption of HIV screening was observed in 2021, it is still much lower than the screening rate observed in 2019 (-22%). Moreover, in 2021, nearly a third of HIV infections were discovered at an advanced stage of infection, thus constituting a loss of opportunity in terms of individual care and an increased risk of HIV transmission to partners. before starting antiretroviral treatment.

In parallel, the month of sexual health continues, around a positive and global approach to sexual health among the population and health professionals. Throughout this month, the actors are mobilized, in their premises, in the districts or on the social networks, to inform on sexual health, in particular through the 3 chosen themes: diversified prevention, contraception and consent.
