US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced today, Friday, that one of the goals of his upcoming visit to China is to “avoid miscalculations” with Beijing, in parallel with seeking spaces of understanding.

Blinken told reporters, before leaving Washington for China, that the visit aims to “open direct lines of communication so that our two countries can manage our relationship in a responsible manner and avoid miscalculations.”

This comes at a time when China has stated that Washington should stop dreaming of dealing with Beijing from a position of strength. Wen Bin pointed out that Washington should not communicate with Beijing on the one hand and endanger Chinese interests on the other hand, or say one thing and do another.

Two days ago, the US State Department announced that Anthony Blinken will visit Beijing and London, from June 16 to 21. The US State Department indicated that Blinken will meet in Beijing with senior officials, where he will discuss with them “the importance of maintaining open lines of communication to responsibly manage relations between the two countries.”

Regarding the deployment of Russian nuclear warheads in Belarus, Blinken considered that “there is no reason” for the United States to change its nuclear position following Moscow deployed nuclear warheads in Belarus.

“We have no reason to change our nuclear position. We see no indication that Russia is ready to use a nuclear weapon,” he told reporters.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country had transferred a first group of nuclear weapons to Belarus, in a practical translation of what Moscow had previously announced last March.

And regarding the information regarding an agreement with Iran on its nuclear program, the US Secretary of State denied the validity of reports that spoke regarding reaching an agreement between the United States and Iran on Tehran’s nuclear program and regarding the release of US citizens detained in the aforementioned country.

Blinken said when asked regarding indirect negotiations through the Omani mediator, “With regard to Iran, some of the reports that we have seen regarding an agreement on nuclear issues or regarding detainees are simply inaccurate and incorrect.”

A few days ago, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, confirmed that “the Islamic Republic of Iran has never left the nuclear talks table, and has always shown its serious readiness for dialogue.”

On Sunday, the Leader of the Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayyid Ali Khamenei, inspected the exhibition of the achievements of the Iranian nuclear industry, and said that the Iranian nuclear program has been facing challenges for 20 years, and that Iran is not regarding to manufacture nuclear weapons.
