Manchester City is preparing to allow the departure of Ilkay Gundogan, captain of the first football team, and Benjamin Mendy, defender, at the end of their contracts this month, following the League said, on Friday, that they are on the list of players who can leave for free.
Gundogan did not disclose his next step following he led the team to win the league, the FA Cup and the European Champions League this season, in light of reports linking him to the move to Arsenal and Barcelona.
The 32-year-old, who proved to be the man of big dates in City’s journey towards winning the historic treble, won 14 titles with the club he joined in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund.
Defender Mendy has not played with City since August 2021, following he was suspended on charges of rape and sexual assault.
The judiciary acquitted the French player, who joined the club in 2017 for 52 million pounds ($66.63 million), of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault last January, but he will be retried on two other counts.
